13577 Radiation Film Badges were used at Hunters Point Shipyard in 1960

In 1960 the US Naval Radiological Defense Lab developed 2655 Radiation Measuring Film Badges for Treasure Island and 12,688 for the US Naval Radiological Defense Lab at Hunters Point Shipyard along with 889 for Hunters Point Shipyard separate from the Defense Lab. These badges are dosimeters that measure how much radiation a person was exposed to during a period of time and they were collected from all over the Bay Area to be developed and analyzed at the Defense Lab for the year of 1960.

This document is a who’s who of radiological exposure just for one year at the US Navy’s Radiological Defense Laboratory and I highly recommend it as reading material to give you a look into the radiation experiments they conducted on the shipyard (including building numbers) and all throughout the Bay Area, including downtown San Francisco!

The presence of radiation badges means each time a human being was exposed to radiation over the course of an experiment or regular monitoring of radiation exposure on site. A very frequent and robust radiological contaminations were taking place at the Shipyard and Treasure Island in 1960.

Camp Parks in Dublin CA was the field station for the Lab where they conducted radiological tests on the base while military personnel worked and lived on the base. These experiments included using the gymnasium to rain down radioactive isotopes to determine its effects on roof structures and that gymnasium was then “cleaned up” and was used by the Navy and then the Air Force when they took over the base and as recently as last year by private entities before it was torn down. Stanford Research did a lot of radiological work at Camp Parks and it is clear they had many nuclear accidents reported in this report from 1960.

  1. I lived on Camp Parks for 15 years. Grew up on the base, as my dad was the Fire & Security Chief there. They did a lot more than you know. The atomic and Nuclear decontamination studies. Our homes and yards were spread with fallout materials. Then robots came in and cleaned. The barracks & buildings were Job Corp was had been contaminated too. George Foreman was starting to box too. 1962-1970 mostly. And many of us and our parents, have had major major major medical issues.

  2. I know about the spreading of materials on the homes I think I posted that on this page with the maps of where they did it. https://disasterarea.home.blog/2020/12/08/dublin-california-radiation-experiments-at-camp-parks/

I know they used the gymnasium for testing, where they rained down radioisotopes onto various types of roof structures to simulate what would happen if a radioactive cloud would get mixed with a rainstorm and how effective the roof structures would be to shedding radiation off of a roof.

I will post more, but at the moment I am concentrating on Treasure Island as the city placed homeless into the barracks which are on top of the navy’s atomic, biological and chemical warfare school and they are dying of cancer and other diseases which are the result of being contaminated.
At that time, which was in the late 50’sand early 80’s they didn’t use robots, they did it by hand. thank you for your statement here. If you have any more information feel free to post it here as we are trying to document all of the contamination.

This was not a one time incident, this was regular training. The US Navy’s’ Radiological Defense lab which conducted these experiments shut down in 1969 so any further experiments were conducted by other authorities. I know Stanford Research Institute was also on Camp Parks participating in these tests.

    1. I lived on Camp Parks from a toddler till I went to college. My father was Fire & Security Chief of the base. He had special Radiac certifications. He was also involved in all the testing. In addition to the gymnasium, they spread the particles on empty barracks across the streets from our homes (officer housing). We could see the robots and “astronaut” type suits being worn, from our homes. We were that close. I also have the complete list of the materials used, and where they were used. I have had cancer & brain tumor, My father died of cancer, many of the kids on the base died or are ill with cancer. And more. These barracks were supposedly cleaned up, so that Job Corps students could be housed there. This was about 1960 when Job Corp came in. There were lots of tests. Radioactive tests, were the isotopes and other materials went into the air and were found in other areas of Dublin, Livermore & Pleasanton. It is always windy there. Many of us kids used to ride motorcycles and ikes into the off limits areas too. I have had three sources tell me that in the back of the base there are mounds. Equipment brought from the South Pacific (Bikini) are buried there. These are tractors and more. They were still radioactive. And the most current Security chief confirmed that.

      1. Back behind the base they built railroad tracks at an intersection so they could remotely control a vehicle that exposed the contents within that intersection with radiation at different amounts based on a mechanism built into the vehicle.
Thank you for posting this, the more tips/information we have the more we can document and figure out what happened on the site. I know that there are personnel that took an oath to not divulge this information are appalled at what happened and how these buildings were are being used by unsuspecting personnel, their families and the public.
